Snowpocalypse 2011

Well, Well, Well....Snowmageddon melted and a week later we get Snowpocalypse.  I can't remember this much snow in Oklahoma in, well, ever!  We missed four days of school last week and this week we are up to two, counting tomorrow.  The crazy thing...we do live in Oklahoma....the high on Sunday is going to be 58!

Knowing that I was about to be snowed in again I had to come up with another project.  Groupon had a Barnes and Noble special the other day....$10 for $20 of merchandise.  I had to do it!  To top it off, I get an educator discount, too.  I have been wanting this book for awhile now, but didn't want to spend $30.00 on it.

As you can see, the book is titled Wee Wonderfuls.  This book has not only dolls, but a little doxie and a monster named Koji!  Inside there are detailed instructions on how to do different stitches, most of which I didn't know exactly how to do.  Let me just say, today I figured out that I prefer machine sewing over hand sewing any day!  It took me a couple of hours to make the doll, but it was a fun learning experience.  Lily kidnapped her as soon as the last stitch was finished!

Snowmageddon 2011

Oklahoma has managed to set a new snowfall record this week and the meterologists went crazy.  As my husband said, I think Mike Morgan is about to pee in his pants!  Monday started out as a normal day but there was a huge amount of anticipation of what was on it's way.  We don't normally get much snow here, we get ice.  Over the weekend the weather reports were getting more and more dramatic as time went by.  They knew something was coming, but didn't know exactly what it would amount to until it got closer.  We don't usually give much attention to the weather forcast because it can change in an instant here.  Seriously!  We usually just wait until whatever storm system makes it's way here and then we go outside and have a look for ourselves.  This is especially true in the spring during tornado season.  Thankfully, I went to the grocery store with my sister on Friday night!  We both had over-flowing baskets and people were giving us all kinds of crazy looks and you can't imagine the look on the checkers faces once we got up to the front.  Well...ninny ninny boo boo....we were smart, we beat the crowd!!  I have been locked up with my children for three days straight and I'm happy to say that they have not had to resort to eating snow.  I have been entertaining the idea of starting a blog of all my sewing adventures and now have finally hit the point where I have enough time on my hands to do it!!!

I think I am going to name this quilt Snomageddon.  I made this for a lady at church that is about to have her first granddaugher.  I sure hope she likes it.  She told me that her daughter really likes zebra print so I went with black and white prints and some pink, because all baby girls need pink!  Here is a close-up picture of one of the blocks.  I went with a loopy quilting pattern.  The back is all zebra print.  I can't wait to give it to her, I hope she likes it!
